Professor Michelle Lowe

Michelle Lowe currently holds an ESRC/EPSRC Advanced Institute of Management Research (AIM) Fellowship, and is Lead Innovation Fellow at AIM, with responsibility for co-ordinating activities of AIM Innovation Fellows carrying out research work under the ESRC/EPSRC AIM 'Targeted Initiative on Innovation' programme.
In 2003, Michelle was appointed Professor of Retail Management at the School of Management, University of Surrey, and from 2003-07 was Leader of the Retail Management Subject Group.
Michelle has attracted research funding from ESRC, Nuffield Foundation, British Academy, Canadian High Commission and commercial sponsors such as Tesco plc, John Lewis Partnership, Sainsbury plc, and Chelsfield plc in the retail and property sectors.
Research work for Tesco plc was used as evidence by the firm at the 2005 'All Party Small Shops Group' Inquiry. In 2006 Michelle co-ordinated an international conference sponsored by the British Academy on 'Globalising Retail: Transnational Retail, Supply Chains and the Global Economy'. In 2008 she became a Member of the ESRC 'Virtual College and in 2009 served on ESRC' First Grants Commissioning Panel. From 2008-13 she holds the position of Deputy Director of the ESRC Retail Industry Business Engagement Network (RIBEN).
